Introduction
The pass and perhaps brightest phase of Babylonian history is often measure referred to as the Neo-Babylonian Empire (626-539 B.C.). The prefix neo- simply means new-fashioned and is often used to describe the new version of somewhatthing. This decimal point of time is often referenced with the overlap of the Exilic period, a time of rebuilding. This time came as the fall of the Assyrian Empire avocation for the rise of those who had been so broken and bruised years prior. The people of Assyria broke free and soon both Egypt and Israel became a free people. Although some may have had Aramaic roots, they consciously identified themselves with Babylonia: in this way, they established their own legitimacy as rulers through a connection with the past glory of the empire.

He formed an alliance with the Medes to the east, and together they took on the Assyrians. In 612 B.C., the combined forces of the Chaldeans and Medes attacked the Assyrian capital of Nineveh. For three months, they conducted a siege, a prolong military attack against a city, until Nineveh fell to them. In spitefulness of this success, the Assyrians still held on and retreated to the west, where they reestablished themselves with the help of Egyptian forces. Nabopolassar at once again defeated the Assyrians, and in 605 B.C. his son Nebuchadnezzar completed the achievement with a battle against the Egyptians at Carchemish.
